BLESSING CHUKWUEDE CALLS OUT CLARESSA SHIELDS FOR HISTORIC WORLD TITLE SHOWDOWN IN NIGERIA

Nigerian Boxing Star Targets Unification Bout as Nanmet Promotions Seeks Corporate Support for Groundbreaking Event

Lagos, Nigeria — Fresh off a dominant victory over Dorcas Emmanuel at the recently concluded UBC Night of Champions Episode 2, Nigeria’s Blessing Chukwuede has set her sights on the biggest prize in women’s boxing: a world title showdown against undefeated American champion Claressa Shields.

Chukwuede’s commanding performance has catapulted her to the No. 1 ranking in both the Universal Boxing Council (UBC) and Women’s International Boxing Association (WIBA) world rankings, in addition to her standing in the WBC, WBA, and other major sanctioning bodies. The victory has solidified her position as the face of African professional boxing, and her team is now planning a major career upgrade with world title ambitions set for 2027.

Management Working to Make Dream a Reality

Speaking from the United Kingdom, representatives of Gloves Management confirmed they are actively working to secure a world title opportunity for their fighter.

„We believe Blessing is ready for the world stage,“ the management stated. „She has proven herself at the African level, and now it’s time to test herself against the very best. Claressa Shields is our primary target.“

The management revealed they are in advanced discussions with Nanmet Promotions, Chukwuede’s Nigerian promotional partners, to finalize what would be a historic event.

Historic Unification Bout Planned for Nigeria

Gloria Samuel of Nanmet Promotions expressed confidence that the event will materialize, announcing that approvals have already been secured from two major sanctioning bodies.

„Next year, we are looking forward to Blessing’s world title fight,“ Samuel said. „She has received approval from the Universal Boxing Council and the Women’s International Boxing Association to stage this first-ever female world title fight here in Nigeria. It’s going to be a unification of titles—UBC and WIBA.“

The event, planned for early 2027, would mark a watershed moment for Nigerian boxing, bringing world-class female competition to African soil for the first time.

Partnership and Sponsorship Challenges

Nanmet Promotions, which has successfully staged two editions of the UBC Night of Champions, is partnering with COABOX Promotions for the landmark event. However, Samuel candidly addressed the financial hurdles facing the project.

„For these two editions of UBC Night of Champions, I have been using my money for this promotion,“ she revealed. „Doing a world-class promotion like this involves money. That’s why we at Nanmet Promotions have now partnered with COABOX Promotions for this world title fight.“

Samuel emphasized that despite the partnership, additional support is critical.

„The main issue here is sponsorship. How do we bring world-class boxers to Nigeria if private companies and investors don’t come on board? We are seeking corporate sponsorship to make sure this fight holds in Nigeria.“

Sanctioning Bodies Give Full Support

Onyeka Eboma Elum, UBC African President, confirmed that the sport’s governing bodies have thrown their weight behind the proposed event.

„I want to assure Nigerians that this event has been approved and will be sanctioned by UBC

and WIBA,“ Elum stated. „I spoke with my superior in the UBC, founder and President Mr. Luis Bello, who is fully supportive of this world title. I also spoke with Ryan Wissow, founder and President of WIBA, who gave his approval for this fight, pending when a suitable opponent will be approved for Blessing—that is, if negotiations with Shields don’t work out.“

Elum noted that while Shields remains the primary target, alternative top-ranked contenders from both UBC and WIBA rankings are available should negotiations with the American star fall through.

A Transformative Opportunity for Nigeria

Beyond the sporting spectacle, organizers highlighted the broader economic and social benefits the event could bring to Nigeria.

„This is going to be a big event and door opener for Nigeria as a country,“ Elum explained. „There will be lots of international investors who will want to invest in Nigeria’s economy if this fight is held here, because these international investors will want to take part in advertising their products and services.“

Elum outlined potential benefits including tax revenue for the Nigerian government, youth empowerment through part-time employment opportunities at the event, and increased international visibility for the country.

Full Card Planned

In addition to the headline UBC/WIBA world title unification bout for Chukwuede, the event will feature UBC/WIBA African titles for other finalists and UBC African titles for male boxers, promising a full night of championship boxing.

Call for Support

Organizers are appealing to both the private sector and government for support to ensure the historic event becomes a reality.

„We look forward to hosting this title in Nigeria and plead for private and government support for this event,“ Elum concluded.
